The first LED light was actually invented by General Electric Co.'s Nick Holonyak Jr., an engineer who created the device while working at Texas Instruments Inc.'s research lab in Dallas in 1962.

I Nick Holonyak Jr., is now 96 years old! He was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 2014 for his work on LEDs.
